October 27th is its first meeting to chat about the potential purposes and goals for our shed members as well as find ways that it can serve its community.
What are Men’s Sheds?
Unique and independent Men’s Sheds have been set up in communities all over the World and Canada. Edmonton has 14 weekly meeting spots for men to socialize and pursue shared interests. Their vision is a Canada where every man feels valued and engaged in his community, experiencing purpose, belonging, and well-being in his aging journey.
Shedders have set up independent meeting spaces for the purpose of putting their combined experience into good public service use, by helping to support and improve their communities and facilities. More importantly, they have fun and enjoy giving back. To learn more about the ‘Shedding movement’ in Canada visit Men’s Shed Canada.
Men’s Sheds Benefits Their Members:
- By reducing isolation.
- By having fun! They enjoy activities they have always loved or discover new ones.
- By making friends.
- By getting involved in their community.
- By having a chance to share their own knowledge or skills and learn from others.
- By being in a place where they can be themselves.
- By experiencing support that can enhance mental health.
